Size: With 8.3 million city residents, New York City is by far the largest city in the US and one of the largest in the world. Big cities can be daunting, but they also come with a lot of perks. You can get almost anything and the stores never seem to close. Just find where all the movers and shakers hang out and settle into your niche.
Transportation: While New York’s massive size–five borroughs totaling 305 square miles–New York has a world-renowned subway system that connects everything. In fact, only 23 percent of New Yorkers commute by car.
Tourism: As the top tourist destination by annual visitors in the US, New York City has some of the most famous attractions in the world, including Broadway/Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, and the New York Stock Exchange
Culture: The home of Broadway is also home to several cultural movements, including the folk movement, which rose out of Greenwich Village to popularize Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel. Harlem was home to some of the greatest Jazz clubs in the world and, in the 1920’s, the Harlem renaissance helped popularize big band Jazz across the nation. New York is also the home of America’s most diverse art scene. Neighborhoods such as such as Chelsea and DUMBO have become the center of the art dealing world, and Manhattan plays host to several of the world’s most famous art museums, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim.
